Southend-on-Sea is a seaside resort town in Essex, England. Often referred to as simply Southend, the town is situated on the north side of the Thames estuary. It is 40 miles east of central London, bordered to the north by Rochford and to the west by Castle Point.

The Southend Pier in Southend-on-Sea is popularly known as the longest pleasure pier in the world. It extends 1.34 miles into the Thames Estuary, and is a Grade II listed building.
