About Bristol

Bristol is a city, a unitary authority area and county in South West England, bordering the Somerset and Gloucestershire counties. To the south-east is the historic city of Bath, and to the north-east is Gloucester. In 2014, Bristol had been awarded by The Sunday Times as the best city in Britain to live in for reasons such as low unemployment, vibrant culture and nightlife, good schools (the University of the West of England and the University of Bristol), and of course, the people. Bristol also has wonderful connections to London and other major UK cities. This is good news as Bristol has plenty to offer for locals and visitors alike.

The Clifton Suspension Bridge, a well-known landmark and symbol of Bristol, spans the Avon Gorge and the River Avon. It links the Bristol suburb Clifton to Leigh Woods in North Somerset. SS Great Britain is a unique attraction, as it is a museum ship that was actually a former passenger steamship. The Cabot Tower in a public park on Brandon Hill is a Grade II listed building with viewing platforms, and provides breathtaking views of the city. Another top attraction is At-Bristol, a science centre and charity that offers interactive hands-on exhibits, a planetarium, and produces shows and workshops.

The bus company First Bristol runs most of the buses serving the city. Bristol Ferry Boat operates ferry services around the harbour, which are a great way to get around and see interesting sights. The Bristol Packet provide city docks tours with commentaries, as well as regular excursions. Taxis are available in Bristol but are quite expensive.
