Piano Trivia

  • The piano is known as The King of Instruments for various reasons, including its tonal range, being able to produce both melody and accompaniment at the same time, and broad dynamic range.
  • The working section of a piano is made up of about 7500 working parts.
  • The piano is a hybrid of a string and percussion instrument. However, it is generally classified as a percussion instrument as it makes sounds when a hammer hits a string.
  • There are three primary types of piano: Grand, Vertical/Upright, and Electronic.
  • Despite being referred to as the “ivories”, piano keys have no longer been made out of ivory since the 1940s. This is in order to protect endangered resources.
